Who is Elle Nikcole?
I’ve been singing and writing lyrics for as long as I can remember. Music has always been a part of my identity—my earliest memories are of singing in the children’s choir at Mowing Glade AME Zion Church in Charlotte, NC, where I learned not just how to carry a tune, but how to feel every word. In high school, I started developing my voice more intentionally through performance groups like Mustang Express, our show choir, and Cantorum, a classical ensemble choir that pushed me to grow vocally and emotionally. Those experiences opened the door to the stage, where I learned that performing is both terrifying and electrifying in the best possible way.
My love for music stretches across genres. I’ll never forget when my mom first played Mahalia Jackson for me, then introduced me to Shalamar, and later Hiroshima’s “Kokoro.” It was like a masterclass in musical storytelling, style, and soul—and it shaped my ears and my heart. R&B, soul, pop, jazz, gospel, classical, rock—I love it all. If it moves me, it ends up on my Apple Music playlist and likely inspires something in my writing.
I started releasing my own music during the pandemic in 2020. It was something I never imagined I’d actually do, but in that moment, it felt necessary. Music became my outlet, my grounding, and my way of connecting with others when everything else felt uncertain. Since then, I’ve continued writing, singing, and experimenting with different sounds—blending my influences and experiences into something that feels authentically me.
I’m passionate about storytelling, especially through lyrics. Each song I write comes from a real place—sometimes joyful, sometimes complicated, but always honest. I’m still growing, still discovering, and still exploring what my sound is and where it’s going. Like Erykah Badu said, “I’m an artist, and I’m sensitive about my s**t.” That line has stuck with me because it’s true—this is personal. But I’m learning to embrace that vulnerability and share it anyway.
You can find my music on all major streaming platforms. I’m excited for you to hear what’s already out—and even more excited for what’s coming next.
